About this experience

For three centuries the Jews of Rome were locked into a few streets by the river every night. This walk starts where the ghetto met ancient Rome, under the arches of the Theatre of Marcellus, and passes the Portico of Octavia, where the lane smells of fried artichokes by lunchtime. At Largo 16 Ottobre 1943 the pavement carries the names of the people taken in the roundup. Then it crosses the Ponte Fabricio, standing since 62 BC, onto Tiber Island and over into Trastevere. Twelve stops and about 2.2 km, finishing under the gold mosaics of Santa Maria. How it works This is a self-guided digital walking tour in the StepQuests mobile app. There is no live guide.
