Madrid Heritage Walk: Barrio de las Letras, Self-Guided App Tour
49 minutes

About this experience
Golden Age Madrid wrote, staged and buried its rivals inside a few streets. The walk starts at Teatro Español on Plaza de Santa Ana, on ground that held one of the city's first courtyard playhouses from the 1580s. Lope de Vega lived at Calle de Cervantes 11 until 1635. Cervantes asked to rest with the Trinitarias, the order that had helped free him, and died in this neighbourhood in April 1616. Pavement letters on Calle de las Huertas still quote the lot of them. Twelve stops, about 2 km, ending where the barrio still shops at Mercado de Antón Martín. How it works This is a self-guided digital walking tour in the StepQuests mobile app. There is no live guide.
