Barcelona Sagrada Família Self-Guided Audio Walk: All Four Façades, Gaudí Avenue and Sant Pau
1 hour

About this experience
The Sagrada Família has been rising since 1882, and every side of it belongs to a different age. In February 2026 the tower of Jesus Christ was completed outside, making it the tallest church in the world, and its main front is still to be built. Start at the pond in Plaça de Gaudí and circle the basilica: the Nativity façade Gaudí built as a model, the Glory side and its planned stairway, his small school with a roof of straight lines, Subirachs's stark Passion façade and the apse where it all began. Then follow the Avinguda de Gaudí uphill to the Hospital de Sant Pau, a garden city of pavilions set on a cross and a UNESCO site. Eleven stops, about 1.5 km and an hour, at your own pace, in English. Entry to the basilica and to Sant Pau is not included; every stop works from the street.

Please note
To start the tour, enter the ticket code from your confirmation on the Roamer redemption page linked there. Do this before you set off, while you still have signal. The tour then opens in your phone browser, with no app to download. Bring a charged phone and earphones. Mobile data helps; if you have none, open the tour on wifi before you set off. Best time: A weekday morning, when the sun from the east lights the Nativity façade across the pond; or begin in the early afternoon to catch the sun on the west-facing Passion façade at stop 5. Both squares are open 24 hours. In leaf, from about May to November, trees screen parts of the views at stops 1 and 7; in winter the towers show down the Avinguda de Gaudí. Getting to the start: Metro lines L2 and L5 to Sagrada Família; the Mallorca / Marina exit is beside Plaça de Gaudí. Buses 19, 33, 34, D50, H10 and B24 also stop at the basilica. Checked 12 October 2026 at sagradafamilia.org. Getting away: the walk ends by Sant Pau | Dos de Maig Metro station, line L5, a short walk along Carrer de Sant Antoni Maria Claret. Basilica tickets (stop 2) are sold online only, about two months ahead, named, with photo ID at the door: 26 EUR, with towers 36 EUR. Book a slot that fits after or before the walk. Checked 12 October 2026 at sagradafamilia.org. The basilica's first hour, 9:00 to 10:00, is a quiet hour: no audio without earphones. Shoulders covered and shorts or skirts to mid-thigh. Sant Pau (stops 10 and 11): 18 EUR self-guided before 2 pm, 17 EUR after, open 9:30 to 18:30 until 31 October and 9:30 to 17:00 from November. Large bags are refused; lockers take 37 x 37 cm. Checked 12 October 2026 at santpaubarcelona.org. Step-free: the only steps on the route are the ten at the end of the pond after stop 1; go round the other side of the pond instead. The avenue climbs gently, about 25 m in all. Both the basilica and Sant Pau have closed at short notice for extreme-weather warnings: check the official sites on the day. The joint exhibition The Sagrada Família and the Hospital de Sant Pau. A Living Memory is free on the Avinguda de Gaudí until 15 November 2026, 9:00 to 18:00, with banners along the avenue (stops 7 to 10) and display cubes at both ends. Checked 12 October 2026 at sagradafamilia.org and santpaubarcelona.org. Plaça de Gaudí, Carrer de la Marina by the entrances (stop 2) and the coach drop-offs on Carrer de Sardenya (stop 5) are among the most crowded places in the city: keep bags closed and in front of you. At stop 2 stay out of the ticket queues and away from the entrance lanes; the walk works from the open street. Stop 3 stands against people's homes on Carrer de Mallorca, beside Passatge de Paula Font: keep voices down and do not go into the passage. The Glory stairway is a live and sensitive question for the people who live here. Works on the Glory side, the Chapel of the Assumption behind the apse and restoration on the Nativity towers bring hoardings, scaffolding and cranes; views at stops 1, 3, 4 and 6 change with them. Leg 5 to 6 crosses Carrer de Sardenya and Carrer de Provença at the corner; the crossings' signals are not confirmed, so wait for a clear gap. Every other main-road crossing on the route has lights. On the Avinguda de Gaudí, slow service lanes run along the edges and are crossed without markings, once on the way to stop 8 and twice just before stop 9: look both ways. Stop 11 is on the pavement of Carrer de Sant Antoni Maria Claret, three lanes of one-way traffic: stay on the pavement. The ten steps at the end of the pond have no handrail. After 15 November 2026 the exhibition banners and cubes on the avenue are gone; stop 8 still works without them. Public transportation nearby
